L-200 MK2 DUAL MONO TUBE PREAMPLIFIER
The TriangleART design team began with our highly successful full function L-200 MkI Preamplifer and reviewed every aspect. Some elements would be retained for the L-200 MkII, and others would be upgraded. We decided that the best case and chassis would still use 3/8ths aluminum all around with the statement inch-thick faceplate and side panel. The L-200 MkII would still require an external power supply to maintain optimal clarity and eliminate interference. The toroidal transformer inhabits its own chassis and connects to the line stage via an umbilical cord and multi-pin connectors. We would still conduct the most meticulous selection of the finest electronic components and wires, including all silver wiring in the signal path. The input selector and the passive 24-step switched volume control are both Swiss-made Elma units with gold contacts, wired to connectors and the circuit board using military grade shielded cable. Each L-200 MkII includes Mundorf capacitors, AMRG resistors, and proprietary output transformers.
We combed over the elegant topologies and powering schemes and refined even further. The L-200 MkII Preamplifier offers several engineering changes and upgrades, some of which learned while developing our landmark P-200 Phonostage. We developed a new circuit configuration and a new printed circuit board laid out for symmetrical signal flow layout, itself a work of art.
In the main chassis the power supply is separated after primary rectification. From there on, the design is exclusively dual mono. Two separate LC power supply filters constructed with proprietary chokes and Mundorf capacitors feed two completely separate line amplification stages. Separating the left and right channels this way produces better sound staging and enhanced three dimensionality.
A single gain stage is used in each channel, completely free of any feedback, global or local. The output transformers are our own custom TriangleART design and provide low impedance drive to connected equipment. The inputs are protected against extreme infrasonic signals and DC noise. The improved design uses one 6SN7 dual triode per channel with operating points and biasing updated from the MkI. This results in greater overall dynamic contrast, improved fine dynamics and greater clarity. The L-200 MkII Preamplifier features five line-level inputs: three RCA and two XLR. Output connectors include two pairs RCA and one pair XLR. Power is indicated by a blue LED built into the power switch on the front panel.
The L-200 MkII retains all of the TriangleART magic for which the L-200 MkI is known, and takes it to a new level. The L-200 MkII improves any line source and is an especially good match for our P-200 phonostage. The results are nothing short of spectacular.
